JOB SUMMARY A Maintenance Apprentice I will learn through on-the-job training (OJT) to perform preventive maintenance procedures on plant equipment to ensure efficiency and reliability. The Apprentice will work under the immediate supervision of a qualified maintenance supervisor or maintenance technician for a minimum period of 1 year learning the operations and repair of packaging and processing equipment and its distribution systems through a broad knowledge base of manufacturing skills in electrical, controls and mechanical disciplines. This position is the first year of a 2 year apprentice program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Responsible for all aspects of food safety and quality, as applicable and defined in plant and department procedures. Follows company policy, complies with safety programs such as LOTO, Confined Space, Arc Flash, Hazard Material Handling and follows OSHA regulations to ensure safe work habits and conditions. With the supervision of a qualified Maintenance Supervisor or Technician: Safety A. Inspect safety equipment such as belt guards, interlock switches, safety valves, limit switches, etc. B. Correct defects as needed. Preventive Maintenance A. Clean lubricate equipment and check fluid levels. B. Performance tolerances C. Pressures and specifications to ensure proper operation. D. Correct deficiencies as indicated. Corrective Maintenance Mechanical 1. Clean, inspect and disassemble machinery and equipment. 2. Evaluate work and broken components to determine the feasibility of repairs, rework, or replacement. 3. Reassemble using new gaskets, and repaired, remanufactured, or new parts as needed. 4. Test reassembled devices to determine conformance with manufacturers specifications. 5. Adjust as needed for optimum performance. Electrical 1. Test and trouble-shoot electrical circuitry using appropriate test equipment. 2. Analyze problems and correct deficiencies as indicated. 6,500 Hours OJT minimum to graduate the Apprenticeship Program Classroom Studies 1. Foundations for College Mathematics 2. Ability to attend offsite schooling at Manchester Community College to fulfill the schooling requirements. Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines within specified time constraints.
